Why I would NOT recommend you to become an Assistant Professor…

…if you’re looking for a job where your only responsibility is to walk into a classroom, teach for an hour, and walk out.

Because being an Assistant Professor is so much more than teaching.

It’s preparing lectures, creating presentations, planning activities, evaluating assignments, mentoring students, answering their doubts, handling administrative work, attending meetings, organising events, working on academic projects, constantly learning and, sometimes, being the person a student comes to when they simply need someone to listen.

It can be exhausting. It can be overwhelming. And yes, there are days when you question whether you signed up for too much.

But then there are the other days.

When a student finally understands something because of the way you explained it.
When a student tells you, “Ma’am, your class actually helped me.”
When you see someone you taught become more confident, more curious and more capable.

And suddenly, all those responsibilities feel like they mean something.

So no, I wouldn’t recommend becoming an Assistant Professor if you’re only looking for a job.

But if you want a career where your work can genuinely shape people, maybe you should consider it.❤️
