Abul A'la Maududi (1903–1979) was an Indo-Pakistani Islamic scholar, journalist, theologian and political thinker who founded Jamaat-e-Islami in 1941. Born in Aurangabad, British India, Maududi became one of the most influential proponents of modern political Islam, advocating the establishment of an Islamic order in which political, legal and social institutions would be guided by Islamic principles. His major works include Tafhim al-Qur'an, a commentary on the Qur'an, Islamic Law and Constitution, and Khilafat o Malukiyat, in which he examined the historical transformation of the early Islamic caliphate into dynastic rule. His interpretation of Islamic history, particularly his treatment of the Umayyad period and the transition from caliphate to monarchy, attracted criticism from several traditional Sunni scholars. Maududi also opposed British colonial rule and initially expressed reservations about the creation of Pakistan, although Jamaat-e-Islami subsequently became active in Pakistani politics. His writings have influenced Islamic movements across South Asia and beyond, while his political theology and historical interpretations remain subjects of scholarly and religious debate
I listen to women talk about being dismissed, ignored, and gaslit by our healthcare system every single day. For me, doctors began dismissing my symptoms when I was an infant. Before I could even speak. And I think that history matters when we talk about abortion. Women have spent generations living within medical and legal systems that didn’t treat us as equal authorities over our own bodies. Women weren’t even federally required to be included in NIH-funded clinical research until 1993. So I don’t see women spending 5, 10, 15 years begging doctors to believe their pain as completely separate from laws restricting our reproductive autonomy. They come from a history of other people being trusted to make decisions about women’s bodies before women themselves are trusted. Doctors and their patients should be in charge of their healthcare. Not politicians. Not hospital lawyers. Doctors. And. Their. Patients. #womenshealthmatters #womenshealthcare #womenshealth #mentalhealthawareness #womensrights
