I can’t believe it’s almost October! I really do not understand how this much of the year has gone by already, and how this last 10 months have felt like they have aged more than a decade. 👀 If you’re new here, welcome! If you’ve been here for a while, thank you for sticking around! I’m thrilled to build community with you! Please make use of these prompts in any way you wish. I have no rules for how you use them, but I would absolutely love to see what you create with them if they happen to inspire you. To help me find your work please tag me with the tag feature using @stillchasingcrescendos Take a few friends, comment, share, and repost this as much as you like. And if this list gives you goosebumps, get ready for the second half! May October fill up your bucket with inspiration , hope and love! #poetryprompts #writinginspo #writingprompts #inspiredwriting #writingchallenge

Before I get started on what motivated my piece this month, I want to give a huge shout out to Savannah @thistooisholy for the incredible amount of feedback she gives to everybody who participates in this. That kind of support makes you feel unlimited and it’s part of the reason I come back month after month. The other shout out has to go to my incredible poetry penpals this month Bushra @thepoeticmoods and Clary @claryawildeauthor who have both approached this theme in completely different but equally inspiring ways and whose writing helps keep me humble. I want to invite you to visit both of their pages if you have yet to do so. So, this month was a really challenging one to think about. The theme of eyes was not something I really wanted to write about because there’s a lot of things right now I’d rather not see. I kept telling myself, even if all you produce is garbage, at least try to come at this from a different angle than you are used to. I wrote about the layers of the eye, I wrote about things I didn’t wanna see, I wrote about where my eyes take me when the future is darker when the future is bright, I wrote about what it would be like if I didn’t have my eyes. I hated all of it. And then this came to me. Tiger eye was my favorite stone growing up, and something about luck and courage always resonated, even when I was small. This felt like the right direction to go with this. I hope you enjoy it. #thepoetryexchangettih #poetrycommunityofig #poetrycommunity #courageovercomfort #spilledthoughts
All I know is I am tired of so many things, but mostly of silence. I am tired of keeping my mouth shut about things that bother me. I am tired of seeing people in power abuse their stations. I am tired of people who take credit for all the work someone or something else put in, or created, to promote it as their own achievement. As their own blood, sweat and tears. I am tired of people who defend that behavior. I am tired of seeing people get harmed because someone else wields their power or authority from a place of fear or selfishness. How anyone can live that way and still not believe they are a part of the problem is mind-boggling. #poetrycommunityofig #poetrycommunity #poetsandpoetry #writersandpoets #alliknow
This poem is more of a remix than it is a cento of the speech Gloria Stein gave at the founding of the National Women’s Political Caucus back in July of 1971. Women throughout history have faced criticism for speaking up for others, for going against the grain, for being ahead of their time, and quite frankly for multitude of things they did knowing that would be the case. Gloria Steinem was no stranger to criticism. Nor was she a perfect person, but I always admired her for her commitment to the idea that racism and sexism must be fought together because our challenges do not exist in a vacuum. Often the stem from the very same place. Ignorance and fear in the hands of those who govern. She recognized that freedom for all can inly be obtained when we work together and for the benefit of one another. That every step forward creates change. That change depends on each of us taking action and not shining away from the challenging and difficult conversations that need to take place to change minds and lives. She may not have been perfect but she definitely helped pay for the way forward, and today I hope we all remember that we have what we have right now because of the many women like her who chose the difficult path over the comfortable one. #gloriasteinem #wovenwords #poetrycommunityofIG #womenwhowritepoetry #weneedeachother
🌎 For week two, I selected prompt three “here, between leaving and staying” as my first line for the September Sprint event hosted by firstlinepoets this month. Thank you to @emmajanepoetry who leads this amazing group of poets, and to the group curators @life_and_light_poetry serena.morrigan @cate_mcminn @noellewritespoetry and the members of the Angelou group for the thoughtful ways in which they inspire and support one another. It is such a pleasure to be among you! #firstlinepoets #poetrycommunity #poetrycommunityofig #breakuppoetry #coldhearted
*** reposting this, because I realized the music I chose was likely AI generated and I’d much rather support something human produced *** 🌎 I don’t know if this counts as a first line, since I used it for the title, but week four’s submission for the First Line Poets’ September Sprint takes its inspiration from prompt 2 “I Remember What The Seasons Gave Me” of our “growth” themed list. Thank you to the groups creator @emmajanepoetry, and to the group curators @life_and_light_poetry serena.morrigan @cate_mcminn @noellewritespoetry for the work and effort that has gone into each week of this month’s selections and everyone in the Anglou group and FLP for your engagement with my poetry. Autumn definitely has me in my feels. 🌎 I was inspired to use “This is where I begin…” for my first line for the September Sprint happening for firstlinepoets this month, created and led by @emmajanepoetry Thank you to the group creators @life_and_light_poetry @cate_mcminn @noellewritespoetry and the members of the Angelou group for their thoughtful feedback and support.
