Wild Carrot - The solitary dark central flower mimics a trapped insect. Real insects see this and fly down to investigate, landing on the cluster and pollinating the plant. When the seeds mature, the umbrella-shaped flower head curls inward to form a concave shape that resembles a tiny bird’s nest. Eventually, the dried seed heads snap off and roll across the ground as tumbleweeds to scatter their hooked seeds.
The aromatic leaves and seeds of wild carrots were grown in the royal gardens of Babylon as far back as the 8th century BC
