I’ll never second-guess my luck, as I attest that to being the reason Jenny came into my life at exactly the right time. Getting to see life through their eyes as they reintroduced me to so many things that I had already thought I was overly familiar with. Through the most thoughtful, honest, and necessary conversations and experiences, and their beautiful framing of the world, being around them is an introduction to accepting and embracing all that is daunting and encouraging, simultaneously. Understanding your boundaries, wants, and needs sounds easier said than done, but frankly, it’s something the majority of us lack. That access Jenny has to themselves is nothing short of inspiring.

Now, more than ever, with the internet as our witness, it’s terribly easy to make a decision about someone without ever actually knowing them. First impressions are had behind screens, as we consume what we all naively believe to be someone’s most authentic self. Through posts, stories, comments, and tags, assumptions have become our generation’s best friends. As a result, when paths are finally crossed with the person we’ve grown to “know,” if they don’t fit the narrative we’ve developed, it’s nearly a shock to the system.
So much exists within assumptions, intimidation, confidence, and, secretly… a lot of ignorance. We can’t help it. The line blurs between someone’s real identity and the one we’ve created mentally.
