A new case of femicide involving a US Marine in Okinawa has renewed outrage among locals over the enormous US military presence in Japan. Protesters shouted "US out of Okinawa!" and "Free, free Okinawa!" They also held banners in solidarity with countries facing US imperialist aggression, including Iran, Palestine and Cuba. According to Okinawa Prefecture, US military bases were linked to 6,163 criminal cases between 1972 and 2022.
