a month agoA series of covered escalators (like Hong Kong’s Central Mid) would be great for connecting the CBD to Spring Hill I think the new Albert Street CRR not connecting via and under street tunnel to the old Myer Centre is also a real missed opportunity Overpasses, underpasses and covered footpaths would help to improve walkability in the inner city
a month agoSafe underpasses would be great too. As part of subway stations. Underground amenity, protection from Brisbanes sometimes hostile weather, avoidance of busy roads, safety as part of manned facilities, designed for accessibility. Cities around the a world use these to enhance connectivity and foster a sense of place.
a month agoA river city needs bridges 🙌 We need pathways to create better access for pedestrians and connect the city. Green Pathways Gold Places is a great initiative to have a look into.
2 months agoMaybe if they were flying foxes, slides or human cannons they might add some interest… why vote on this, just asking????
2 months agoOverpasses are generally an expensive way to fix an issue caused by prioritising cars, and they are usually a less good experience than equivalent priority given at ground level.
2 months agoWe love that overpass near Anzac Square because it's the best place to tell the story of the Battle of Brisbane (and point out the river design on the side of the CommBank building!)
2 months agoWhen I worked in Brisbane city I loved finding different ways to travel around the city, overpasses are an excellent way of providing safe pedestrian access around a busy city.
2 months agoHave you been to Bangkok ? Those overpasses at shopping districts… very vibrant and full of activities/ very charming Understand though it wouldn’t suit many cities / culturally
2 months agoOver passes but without giving up the ground to cars. Cities should be multi level, with multi level crossings for pedestrians. Brisbane cbd and brisbane in general has terrible road cross-ability.
2 months agoThe Toowong pedestrian tunnel is an interesting example of the opposite approach to crossing a busy road. It’s pretty under-utilised, despite Council dressing it up recently. I think more folks would like the CPTED benefits of an overpass 🤷♂️ Ideally we would have a car tunnel and pedestrian can rule the ground, but we’re decades away from that.
