For years, I’ve been fortunate enough to run endurance races all over the world, many of them over100k. Along the way, I’ve also had the privilege of coaching, mentoring, and motivating others to push beyond what they thought was possible, in sport, business, and life. Motivation and discipline have always been a huge part of that journey. But over time, I’ve learned that there’s something just as important: leadership, and knowing how to make the right call when things get tough. This time, I didn’t make it to the finish line. And that’s part of the journey too. Experience doesn’t mean everything will always go according to plan. It means recognizing when something isn’t working, having the courage to make difficult decisions, learning from them, and coming back stronger. Whether it’s running 100k, helping someone through a challenge, building a business, or managing a renovation project, the principle is the same: stay disciplined, lead with purpose, make the right decisions when they matter most, and keep moving forward. These are lessons endurance sport has taught me over the years, and they’re the same values I bring into everything I do, including every project at Mountains Carpentry
