My hubby was tattooed by Steve Godoy back in 96 a jellyfish freehand as a bday present from his son's mom. We heard this story then. He is a legend!!!

I figured out needle making on my own. With the help of that Spaulding and Roger’s catalog as well. Was ordering their pre made needles at first then was like hmm the jigs the supplies make more since to order those. A make my own cause I needed more to use an didn’t want to reuse them ever. And brand new from them pre made just wasn’t cost effective at all. So it was flats and rounds till Paul Booth told me about his way to make magnums I took his approach can changed out the razor blade for a sheet of paper that o could run like 30 tack d groupings up the side and flux them all an then run solder up them to lock them into the configuration the S&R jig heads were not ment to this many needles so I had to file out the teflon heads so that baring the needle heads. Would be straight a proper. I just got the stuff and mentally deconstructed the groupings to teach myself them made my own little tricks. I would tighten my liners in mechanical pencil tips to get them super tight like I wanted them. When there is a will there is a way. And Art a Steve are icons an hero’s of mine growing up skater a loving tattoos as well I was like hell yeah these guys are doing it. Kicking ass on the skate world and breaking their way into the tattoo world as well. I am gonna do that too. Great episode!!!

Having @art_godoy_tattooing at @direwolftattooco has been amazing. His stories alone but showing us the proper way to rebuild/make machines teaching our apprentice @noahjhnsntattoo how to make needles. We make our own foot pedals and clip cords we are all on coil (I ditched my dildo pen because of Art) and just teaching us how to not be so dependent on the greedy corporations and suppliers for everything we need. After over 41 years of tattooing he’s the first one at the shop last one to leave as a new shop owner way in over my head he’s been someone I’ve been able to count on every day for so much advice and help. Dire Wolf wouldn’t be where it is today without him ❤️.

Oh man, the owner of the shop I learned at totally gate kept needle making from everyone. 😜 The two working there dudes had been there and tattooing for four or five years post apprenticeship and the owner STILL made all the needles. And no one was allowed to own their own tubes. Just shop tubes. My first few years of making needles were soooo fucked after that! Hahaha

I remember @godoymachines coming to Guadalajara mexico convention many years ago. They did an entire seminar in Spanish. If I remember they told me they learned spanish so they could do seminars and interact with friends in Mexico. Very cool guys.
