Introducing, the NEO86. DEMO 001. What a dream. Ever since seeing this at Tokyo auto salon last year, I knew I had to do one. I just had no idea when, where, or how. I definitely didn’t expect it to be this soon. But with @myjapandirect & @resultjapan, we get to build the first one ever in the US for the automotive industries biggest stage, @semashow. There are some stories that stay with you long after you’ve finished filming, and this is absolutely one of them. Sixty years on from Aberfan, I had the privilege of spending time with people whose lives were changed forever by what happened that morning. Hearing them talk about their childhoods, their friends, their families and the community they grew up in was incredibly moving. The programme also focuses on some of the quiet heroes of Aberfan and the stories of courage that came out of an unimaginable day. Being Welsh, this is a story that has always felt close to home, but making this as a mum of three made it land in a completely different way. There were moments I found very difficult, and stories I know I’ll never forget. What struck me most though was the people. The strength, the generosity in sharing memories that are still so painful, and the determination that what happened, and the people who were lost, should never be forgotten. I feel enormously grateful to everyone who trusted us with their stories. Alex Jones: Un diwrnod yn Aberfan airs Sunday 18 October at 8pm on S4C, with a repeat Wednesday 21 October at 10pm.
