My hobby of collecting sea shells has gotten a lot bigger 🫣
These giant shells were carved from layers of foam to be easily set on stage for this year’s production of The Tempest by @stratfest (Set Design by Julie Fox). Based on real shells, this project was so beautiful and I had so much fun painting them. As much as I love making miniatures, making small things huge is equally fun
I was guided through this foam shell build by Matthew Burgess. I almost couldn’t believe how much foam is used and manipulated for the stage. If you’re wondering what something is made of, chances are it’s foam!

Wow, this is amazing! I’ve never used this type of foam but I know it’s used for a lot of builds. Thanks for sharing this! I would have used muslin myself instead of cheesecloth, I always have it lying around. Lol!!!😂👍👍👍👍

Curious to why cheesecloth and not fiber glass? I make props for CG professionally so I don't go through this process myself but I love watching it!
