In 2017, I had the honor of co-producing “Women’s March - a democracy about democracy & human rights” with Iliani Matisse and @mosparkle just after the first Tr#mp election. In DC, cinematographer @sampricew captured the story of @gretchengoldman - one of the march participants we filmed with.
@gloriasteinem addressed the crowd in DC that day, and her message included these powerful words about the demonstration:
“We are here and around the world for a deep democracy that says we will not be quiet, we will not be controlled - THIS is the upside of the downside. This is an outpouring of energy and true democracy like I have never seen in my very long life [crowd cheers]. It is wide in age, it is deep in diversity. And remember, the constitution does not begin with ‘I the president, it begins with ‘we, the people.’ [crowd repeats & cheers]” - Gloria Steinem
Rest in power, Gloria. You certainly helped so many people realize their own power.
