So…if you haven’t heard yet, the UNEP officially recognized the crossing of our 1.5 degree C threshold as of September 2026.
They quoted “There are no good outcomes if we remain above 1.5°C. Across the globe, extreme heatwaves are already proving that climate impacts will strike faster, hit harder, and last longer - costing more lives (4 bill est) & deeper disruption,” said Inger Andersen, Executive Director of UNEP. “Now is the time we must double down on climate action. We must get on the right path. By cutting greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening resilience and adaptation, and ensuring exceedance of 1.5°C is as small and short as possible.”
My take from this is that the Earth doesn’t give a shit whether people assume climate change is a theory, or not. She’s warming anyway, and at an exponential rate. The impacts will be increasingly felt in the coming years.
How powerful is one persons ability to make a change? As powerful as 900 others joining in.
I see it this way. It’s not that people don’t care enough..there is a global, psychological shutdown in regard to climate crisis and when you look at it biologically it tracks. When the habitat that you need to survive, begins to deteriorate, you’re sent into survival mode (minus the inclusion of the impacts of late stage capitalism). Whether consciously or otherwise, these are pretty basic rules to survival and evolution. When pushed into survival mode, who becomes your main focus? you. Hence why we live surrounded by those fostering a “me first” mindset. It is an easy way out, a diffusion of responsibility. Assuming that our impact alone won’t change anything, so someone else with more influence will take care of it. But we see how, one by one, this has massively affected the collective. Each person assumes their efforts make no impact, so they make no effort. Then suddenly 300 million people abide by this logic. This is the weight of social influence.
What if you flipped this psychology? “Me first” (prioritizing your own resources) becomes “Me first” (focusing on conserving your resources). You already aren’t carrying the weight of the collective, why not make it productive? #fyp Check link in bio
