These are my memories from Managua, Nicaragua 🇳🇮 2026 👊🏻
Working in sports is not easy. It requires commitment, sacrifice, passion, emotion, and it demands growth. Here are a few reflections from this past week working as physio for the Canadian Women’s U23 National Team:
RESILIENCY 💪🏻
We lost 0-3 to México in a cutthroat round-robin, setting up an epic 5-set revenge match for Bronze. I still remember that in elementary school, my teacher told us resiliency means “having the ability to bounce back.” That’s exactly what this team did — took the loss as a learning opportunity and bounced back to secure the W against our longtime rivals. 🫱🏻🫲🏼 Always a pleasure to share some good times with the Mexican staff after the dust settles (last photo, shoutout Toña) 🍻
PACING 🏃🏻
I’ve always prided myself on having a big gas tank — non-stop treatment through a full shift. But with the competition calendar packed from 7am to 11pm, learning to actually recharge myself was crucial to avoiding burnout and, ultimately, to serving the team well. This has honestly been the hardest lesson for me to learn over the years, and I see others fighting the same battle. ⚔️
GRATITUDE 🌹
As I was leaving the clinic at 8:30pm the day before my flight, my regular client stopped me at the door and said: “NATHAN! Remember to enjoy!” I smiled and told her that I will. I get caught in the grind sometimes and forget what an honour it is to do exactly what I want for work, surrounded by amazing people. I thought about her words often the whole trip. 💭
It’s been a privilege working with this team — thank you all for entertaining my new digicam and trusting me with your athletic journeys. 🫶🏻
Onto the next, in Léon, México! 🇲🇽
