Had so much fear while photographing this place, so I mostly photographed during short stops while driving, or from the car window. I might have some undeveloped film from this day somewhere but I don’t know where.
Asaluyeh is a three hour drive from where I grew up. It’s mostly home to Iranian Arabs and Sunnis, and it’s also a place where my aunt used to teach at an elementary school when I was a kid. While driving there from Bushehr, the street signs welcome you to “the economic capital of Iran.” The air is heavy for a photographer there if you know what I mean.
