Founded in 1978, The Mudd Club was the art-based, edgy, nightlife alternative to Studio 54 or the raw and filthy CBGB’s. It became well known for not only live music and DJs, but also famous for hosting film screenings, fashion shows, and outrageous “motif parties”. There were multiple floors for dancing, art displays, and bar hanging.

I love that underrated Iggy Pop Party album. Pumping for Jill and Rock n Roll Party are favorites.

I’ve been revisiting a lot of documentaries and dramas about this era as well as films like After Hours and Desperately Seeking Susan which featured so many of these LES musicians, artists and other edgy creatives like Anne Magnuson and Johns Lurie and Turturro. Also Basquiat. This post begs the question “What’s Grace Jones doing these days?”

Such an interesting era in music. A lot of experimenting and searching for new sounds. Very inspiring, especially Brian Eno...❤️
