JD and I were both Christians when we got married, but we were definitely on the lukewarm side. We attended church, but we weren’t reading our Bible or seeking God’s direction. Our life was based on our preferences. A few months into marriage, my doctor advised me to stop taking birth control because the side effects were becoming serious. So we chose to start our family sooner than planned. Gunner was an easy pregnancy, and I delivered a beautiful, perfect baby boy. I assumed having another would be just as simple. Then came back-to-back miscarriages. I tried to figure out why and how I could “fix” it. I wanted a rainbow baby so badly. When we lost what we were told would be twins, I reached the end of trying to control something I couldn’t. That’s when I chose to trust God. I didn’t know whether that would mean another baby. I just knew I wanted to trust Him with our family. Today, we feel deeply led to trust God with our family size, our finances, and our time together. But sharing our conviction doesn’t mean we believe everyone has to live the exact same life. The beautiful thing about our Creator is how uniquely He made each of us, and how differently our paths can unfold as we follow Him. Our story includes nine children. Someone else’s faithfulness may include walking through infertility, adoption, or raising a smaller family. I’m sharing how He led us here. My hope is that you’ll seek Him for your own family, too.
