Race - Wild Racer 70.3
Position - Runner up(MTB)

While running towards the finish line something happened that never happened before - my eyes teared up, not for the joy of making it but what I went through to get here. All the struggles and set-backs flashed before my eyes.

After being consistent in endurance sports for almost six years, I had become completely disconnected from it for nearly two years. And getting back was much harder than I had imagined.

I was struggling to find time to train. I was having issues with my bike fit. My running shoes gave up and forced me to train in my race shoes. I was struggling to run at 7:00/km when 5:00–5:30/km had once been my comfortable pace. Work pressure made me miss entire weeks of training. Rain kept me home on days I was supposed to train. And my road bike seemed to get a puncture almost every ride.

I was so frustrated with the punctures and the long walks home while pushing my bike that I seriously considered buying a new one. But, of course, the estimated delivery date was after the race.

My luck with the bike got even worse. Just two weeks before race day, a drunk driver nearly ran me over while I was riding my road bike.

That forced me to switch to my MTB and completely change its setup and geometry, turning it from a hardtail setup into something more suited for XC riding. There was a lot of trial and error, adjustment, and uncertainty.

There were moments when I genuinely thought, Maybe God doesn't want me to get back. Why does something that should be so simple have to be this difficult?

But perhaps He was teaching me something. Perhaps He wanted me to become comfortable with uncertainty and learn how to fight through it.

I'm so proud of myself that I did not back down or give up (reminds me of Nirmal Purja's famous quote "Giving up is not in the blood Sir, it's not in the blood. RIP Nirmal)

I think about the gruelling training sessions. The late-night training sessions in the rain while everyone else was comfortably asleep. Going to bed dawn and then making it to work in the morning. The double sessions I did to compensate for missed training. The countless hours of back-
