I find the tender area in the upper trapezius, apply comfortable pressure and have the patient slowly shrug the shoulder. Trigger points around the neck and shoulders can reproduce head and neck pain in some people (Dolina et al., 2024). Manual therapy may also help reduce pain and headache frequency in people with tension-type headaches (Kamonseki et al., 2022). Try it with a partner: 1. Look down towards the opposite armpit. 2. Find the tender area across the top of the shoulder. 3. Apply comfortable pressure. 4. Slowly shrug 5 to 10 times.
