JOIN ME!!!! Tues 29 Sept 10am- 3pm at Faversham Market! Read:
"What do Albert Square and Whitstable Harbour have in common?
"The answer is Julie Wassmer.
"Today, Julie is probably best known as the creator of the Whitstable Pearl novels, which went on to inspire the hugely popular television series starring Kerry Godliman as Pearl Nolan.
"But Julie's career as a writer began long before Pearl opened the doors of her detective agency in Whitstable.
"For almost 20 years, Julie worked as a television drama writer with credits including London's Burning and Family Affairs - and, most notably, EastEnders.
"And those years spent writing the residents of Albert Square left their mark.
"Julie has spoken about how writing for EastEnders taught her the importance of ending a scene with a hook and an episode with a cliffhanger - lessons she later carried with her into writing the Whitstable Pearl mysteries. Some readers have even told her that, at particularly dramatic moments in the books, they can almost hear those famous EastEnders drums!
"In 2015, came the first Whitstable Pearl mystery – and the beginning of the series that would eventually take Julie's stories from the streets of Whitstable onto TV screens around the world. Just one of the reasons we're particularly looking forward to welcoming Julie to Faversham later this month for Meet the Kent Author.
"Julie will be joining us at Faversham Charter Market, where you'll be able to drop by, meet her, have a chat about her books – or perhaps even ask her about those years writing the residents of Albert Square!
"She'll also have copies of her books which she'll be very happy to sign for you.
"No presentation. No formal author talk. Just the chance to meet a hugely successful Kent writer, have a chat, and discover a little more about the woman behind Whitstable Pearl.
"Sometimes, the interesting part of meeting an author isn't simply finding out about the books. It's discovering the story behind the person who wrote them.
