TWO VERY DIFFERENT CREATIVE TALENTS JOIN US TOMORROW! There's something of an artistic flavour to Faversham Charter Market tomorrow, Tuesday 27th October, as we welcome two rather different creative personalities! First, we're delighted to be hosting our third Meet the Kent Author event, featuring fantasy novelist Mark Stay, who'll be joining us from 10am to 3pm. Whether you're already a fan of his books, enjoy a good fantasy novel, or simply fancy finding out what goes on inside the mind of a successful author, do pop along and say hello! And then there's Jonathan... Yes, that well-known (in Medway, at least!) colour-blind, autistic, PAT-testing artist, Jonathan Ash! Some of you may remember that Jonathan was due to make his Faversham Charter Market debut last Tuesday but had to withdraw at the last minute after feeling rather Tom and Dick. Jonathan is a wonderfully individual artist whose colourful, imaginative work certainly catches the eye. We've chosen one of his pop-art pieces to accompany this post, and we reckon it'll get a few of you talking! So, whether it's books, art, a bit of shopping or simply a good old-fashioned natter you're after, there's plenty of reasons to visit Faversham Charter Market tomorrow. Come along, meet the people behind the creativity, and give them both a proper Faversham welcome! See you tomorrow! With only a few days to go before Halloween, who better to join us for our next MEET THE KENT AUTHOR event than a man whose books are filled with witches, magic, mystery and a generous helping of British humour? On Tuesday 27th October, we're delighted to welcome Kent-based author and screenwriter MARK STAY to Faversham Charter Market! Mark is perhaps best known for his hugely entertaining Witches of Woodville novels, published by Simon & Schuster. Set in a fictional Kent village during the Second World War, the series combines the everyday challenges of wartime Britain with witchcraft, supernatural mysteries and some decidedly unusual characters. Think Dad's Army meets Bedknobs and Broomsticks - with a rather darker twist! Mark is also an accomplished screenwriter, whose credits include the science-fiction adventure Robot Overlords and the 2023 Warner Bros. horror film Unwelcome. His work also helped inspire the television adventure series Nautilus, based on Jules Verne's legendary Captain Nemo. With more than 25 years' experience in bookselling and publishing, Mark is also a familiar voice to aspiring writers, having co-presented the award-winning Bestseller Experiment podcast. He now hosts Creative Differences, exploring the fascinating business of writing and creativity. Come along, meet Mark, discover his books and have a chat about witches, writing and the wonderful worlds he creates. 📍 Faversham Charter Market, Court Street 📅 Tuesday 27th October 2026 - 10am to 3pm 🎟️ Free to attend - everyone welcome! Her first time at Faversham Charter Market... and look who came and bought 'a few things from her' - TV personality KATE GARRAWAY! It was SAMMIE'S POSH TOGS first time with us yesterday, in the spot usually occupied by another women's fashions stall. JOIN ME!!!! Tues 29 Sept 10am- 3pm at Faversham Market! Read: "What do Albert Square and Whitstable Harbour have in common? "The answer is Julie Wassmer. "Today, Julie is probably best known as the creator of the Whitstable Pearl novels, which went on to inspire the hugely popular television series starring Kerry Godliman as Pearl Nolan. "But Julie's career as a writer began long before Pearl opened the doors of her detective agency in Whitstable. "For almost 20 years, Julie worked as a television drama writer with credits including London's Burning and Family Affairs - and, most notably, EastEnders. "And those years spent writing the residents of Albert Square left their mark. "Julie has spoken about how writing for EastEnders taught her the importance of ending a scene with a hook and an episode with a cliffhanger - lessons she later carried with her into writing the Whitstable Pearl mysteries. Some readers have even told her that, at particularly dramatic moments in the books, they can almost hear those famous EastEnders drums! "In 2015, came the first Whitstable Pearl mystery – and the beginning of the series that would eventually take Julie's stories from the streets of Whitstable onto TV screens around the world. Just one of the reasons we're particularly looking forward to welcoming Julie to Faversham later this month for Meet the Kent Author. "Julie will be joining us at Faversham Charter Market, where you'll be able to drop by, meet her, have a chat about her books – or perhaps even ask her about those years writing the residents of Albert Square! "She'll also have copies of her books which she'll be very happy to sign for you. "No presentation. No formal author talk. Just the chance to meet a hugely successful Kent writer, have a chat, and discover a little more about the woman behind Whitstable Pearl. "Sometimes, the interesting part of meeting an author isn't simply finding out about the books. It's discovering the story behind the person who wrote them. MEET THE KENT AUTHOR – JULIE WASSMER Tuesday 29th September Faversham Charter Market Court Street (opposite Cafe Guild and Havisham's) 10am–3pm" Jx ❤️ #Faversham #me by @favershammarkets

🌿 **IT'S OUR PRE-HOP FESTIVAL MARKET!** 🌿 Faversham is getting ready for a very busy weekend - and this Friday's Charter Market is going to be a little bit different... and quite a bit bigger! With the Hop Festival taking over the town on Saturday and Sunday, we've invited as many of our traders as possible who can't join us over the Festival weekend to come along on Friday 4th September instead. The result? We're expecting around 50% more stalls than on a normal Friday! 🥖Gilda Bakery, normally with us on Saturday, will be coming a day early with their wonderful traditional breads and baked goods. 💍 We're also delighted to welcome Nomad Jewellery (Christo) - hugely popular around North East Kent and on the festival circuit. 🍰 And after a few months away, BakeAway is back! There's also something our regular shoppers REALLY need to know... Some of our big Friday favourites - ME13 Market Garden, Roy's Bargains, Richard’s Plants and Whitehill Farm Fruit & Veg - will be trading as usual this Friday, but they will NOT be at the market on Saturday. So if you normally stock up with them, Friday is the day to come! Everything else on Friday is business as usual. The market will be open from 9am (or whenever the first shoppers beat us to it!) until 4pm, with normal access to the town throughout the day. The Hop Festival itself officially begins at 10am on Saturday - but while Faversham gets ready for its biggest weekend of the year, we're making Friday's market a bit of an occasion too. After all, the Hop Festival has been going for 40 years. Faversham Market has had a little more practice... 😉 See you Friday! 🌿🥕🥖💍 by @favershammarkets
On Tuesday 25th August, Jo Bavington-Jones will be joining us at Faversham Charter Market for Meet the Kent Author. YOU'RE NEVER TOO OLD TO WONDER WHAT ON EARTH YOU'RE DOING WITH YOUR LIFE... Today, Jo Bavington-Jones is perhaps best known for her blackly comic crime novels. But that's not where her published writing career began. Jo's first novel, Lucy Shaw's Not Sure, appeared in 2017 - and introduced readers to a woman whose life hasn't quite turned out the way she might once have imagined. Lucy is approaching fifty. Her children are growing up. Her marriage isn't exactly setting the world alight. And somewhere amongst the everyday business of family, relationships and getting older, Lucy finds herself wondering what happened to the person she used to be - and what she actually wants from the years ahead. Sound familiar to anyone...? Because one of the things that makes Lucy's story work is that this isn't some extraordinary world inhabited by extraordinary people. It's recognisable. It's about reaching that point in life when you look around and realise that things have changed - children don't need you in quite the same way, relationships have evolved, your priorities are different - and perhaps the person you've spent years looking after rather less carefully is yourself. And Jo tells Lucy's story with humour. Sometimes warm, sometimes rather more pointed, and frequently with the sort of observations about everyday life that make you suspect the author may have been paying rather closer attention to the people around her than they realised... Lucy Shaw's Not Sure was followed in 2019 by Lucy Shaw Wants More, continuing Lucy's story. Only later did Jo's writing take a decidedly more murderous turn. She'll be bringing her books with her, including the Lucy Shaw novels, and will be very happy to talk about the stories, the characters, how much of real life finds its way into fiction - and what happened when a writer of contemporary women's fiction discovered that she rather enjoyed bumping people off instead... Meet the Kent Author - Jo Bavington-Jones Tuesday 25th August | 10am–3pm Faversham Charter Market, Court Street, Faversham by @favershammarkets
