Harper and Gideon turned 16 today… It’s amazing to see how they’ve grown, and I couldn’t be prouder of the people they’ve become. Mostly, though, I’m so grateful that they can drive me around everywhere now. xoxo (❤️ @dbelicious for being a remarkable dad)
BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA… WHAT A NIGHT!!! 🇨🇴🔥🤘🏻 The BIGGEST show in BURNING WITCHES history!!! 🔥 You guys absolutely blew us away! What an incredible crowd, what an insane energy! Lesson 6 💌: You don’t have to change who you are or how you look to be taken seriously. Looking back, I don’t think it was the complaint itself that affected me most. It was what I took away from it. That perhaps if I dressed a little differently, wore less makeup, made less effort with my appearance, blended in a little more… people might take me more seriously. And I think we have all been there… Changed something about ourselves, not because we wanted to, but because we worried about how we might be perceived. Of course, there are professional standards, dress codes and safety considerations. I’ve spent my career in medicine, and I understand their importance. But there’s a difference between dressing appropriately for your job and feeling you have to dull your personality to be respected in it. At the time, I was a young medical student. I didn’t question it. I just put on scrubs and got on with my day. And perhaps that’s the bit I’d do differently now. Not necessarily the clothes, but the assumption that someone else’s judgement of my appearance must mean there was something wrong with it. As I raise my daughters, I want them to understand that feedback is important, but not every opinion requires them to change. You can be feminine, enjoy fashion, love makeup, wear pink shoes AND be intelligent, capable and professional. One doesn’t cancel out the other. And I wish my younger self had understood that a little sooner. Have you ever changed how you look or dress because you worried you wouldn’t be taken seriously?
Even when his own heart is heavy, he still finds the strength to smile for us. 🥹💔 Even when life is difficult for him, he continues to give us hope, love, and courage. Those eyes may be filled with tears, but his faith and strength never fade. He is our inspiration, our hope, and such a beautiful example of what it means to stay strong. 🥺🤍 Oh, Papa Leo… if only you knew how deeply you are loved. We are always here for you, just as you have always been here for us. ❤️‍🩹🙏
