Some days bring tough news together with moments so profound they stay with you forever.

Looking around the hospital room of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as my son’s recent test results were discussed with medical care team, I couldn't help but connect teachings of the lulav and esrog to the room around us.

True unity doesn't require being the same as one another; it requires us to bring our individual strengths to the same room.

The newest test results weren’t ones we wanted and at the same time while feeling pained, I felt a sense of gratitude knowing we’re surrounded by a brilliant and compassionate diverse medical team, with support from Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society (RCCS), Chai Lifeline, family, friends and community.

And after a long, heavy day
of waiting and finally receiving these test results, Avremi did something extraordinary.

With his signature smile, Avremi invited the care team to join in making a blessing on the lulav and esrog, infusing joy, peace, positivity and tremendous unity into the hospital room.

Dr. Glade Bender said it was the best way to end her day.

For my son and I, this experience was another reminder that in middle of a storm feeling pain and fear, coming together with others provides human connection, comfort and a sense of unity.

Please join many others in increasing acts of kindness while keeping Avraham ben Feiga Golda in your hearts and prayers for a complete and miraculous recovery.
