Opera Asia Pacific

🌏 MEMBERSHIP WELCOME | TOKYO NIKIKAI OPERA FOUNDATION, JAPAN 🇯🇵

We are delighted to welcome Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation (東京二期会) to the Opera Asia Pacific membership community as a Principal and Founding Member.

The history of Nikikai began in 1952, when 16 of Japan’s leading singers came together to establish a new organisation dedicated to the development of opera and vocal performance in Japan. Over more than seven decades, Nikikai has grown into one of the country’s leading operatic institutions, encompassing opera production, artist development, professional training and a major singers’ association.

Today, Tokyo Nikikai continues to play an important role in Japan’s operatic landscape, with around 2,700 singer members and a long history of hundreds of opera productions, while building international collaborations and nurturing new generations of artists.

The name “Nikikai” — the “second-generation association” — reflects both gratitude to the artists who came before and a determination to carry opera forward into the future.

We are very happy to welcome Tokyo Nikikai into our growing Asia-Pacific network and look forward to strengthening connections between Japan and the wider regional and international opera community.

Welcome to Opera Asia Pacific! 🌏🎭
