Sometimes you’re not upset about the like. You’re unsettled by the change. Because when you actually know someone, you know their patterns. You know how they normally show up, celebrate, engage and interact with you. So when that changes, while everything else seemingly stays the same, of course you notice. But here’s where maturity comes in: Noticing a shift doesn’t give us permission to assign a motive to it.

Maybe they’re resentful. Maybe they’re comparing. Maybe they’re hurt. Maybe they’re creating distance. Maybe something is happening in their life that has absolutely nothing to do with you. You won’t know until there’s language.

And that’s why healthy friendship cannot be built on hints, withdrawal, silent punishment or expecting people to decode changed behavior.

If something has changed, talk about it. And if you’re the one who noticed the change, don’t let someone reduce your concern to, “You’re really mad because I didn’t like your post?”

Sometimes the missing engagement isn’t the issue. It’s simply evidence of a larger relational shift you’ve already been feeling. Notice patterns. Ask questions. Have conversations. But don’t confuse discernment with certainty.

Social media may show you that something changed. Only an honest conversation can help you understand why.
