Following the viral moment of East Austin video about East Austin and this ongoing controversy surrounding this HISTORICALLY BLACK CENTERED NEIGHBORHOOD. Community members and local residents came together and united for support of this cause. HBCUs, like Huston-Tillotson University, have built the community around them and pour into them today. As East Austin faces means of mass gentrification in an area that was historically underserved and underfunded, new owners and residents lose their respect for history, culture, and property. Continue to make noise for causes like this. Continue to disrupt when necessary to uphold your rights and values. Continue to gather peacefully and RIGHTFULLY EDUCATE THEM ABOUT OUR HISTORY. #1875FOREVER #hbcubuzz #eastaustin #ht #culture
Yesterday, Rhode Founder and Chief Creative Officer Hailey Bieber spoke at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit in Santa Barbara, California. “I am not interested in overconsumption. I think the beauty space is very, very filled as it is,” Bieber said, adding that Rhode’s ethos was inspired by beauty essentials “as somebody who has been working since I was seventeen years old and traveling on my own.” Problem is, despite the brand’s commitment to “the reduction of overconsumption,” Rhode isn’t exactly known for sustainable products or practices. From bag charms for your makeup to wasteful PR packaging, talk is cheaper than its $16 pimple patch case (patches sold separately). Can the millionth celebrity skincare brand really avoid overconsumption or is the venn diagram a circle? Swipe through for examples that seem to counter the brand’s “commitment to our planet.” #business #reels #makeup #celeb #money

Here’s what you don’t see. I think it’s important to share this part especially for all the theatre kids out there. Yep it’s a lot of glamorous. Yep is the dream job. Yep it’s one of the highlights of my career. But before the glam, before the ovations and bravas… there’s all of this. The absolute anxiety and self doubt, the panicked texts to your teachers completely freaked out, losing my tooth 20 years ago as Christine when the trap doors malfunctioned so you ended up in the ER, the eye surgery 3 weeks before because your eye swelled shut as a reaction to Carlotta makeup, the fire that stopped the show from happening 10 years ago after all that hard work…the HOURS in the practice room for an entire YEAR to build the stamina, get notes back and to be able to sing the hardest role you’ve ever sung in your life. It’s a marathon indeed and it’s always impossible at first and then it’s always ALWAYS worth it. Most importantly, I didn’t get here alone. My teachers @marysetrakian and Joan Lader and @kristenblodgette literally LITERALLY are badass earth angels without whom I wouldn’t be here. And yall, if you want this for your living, don’t stop! Keep going! #phantomoftheopera #practice #behindthescenes
