5 Things I Would NEVER Ignore During a Home Tour‼️
1. Cracks
Not every crack means there’s a major problem, but I’d pay attention to where it is, how large it is, and whether it appears to be changing. Cracks around doors, windows, ceilings, or the foundation deserve a closer look.
2. Water Stains
A water stain on the ceiling or wall could mean a current or previous leak. Even if it looks old or dry, I’d want to know where the water came from and whether the underlying issue was actually repaired.
3. Strange Smells
Musty, moldy, sewage-like, or unusually strong chemical smells can be clues that something needs further investigation. Don’t let candles or air fresheners distract you from what your nose is telling you.
4. Sloping Floors
A floor that feels noticeably uneven or slopes in one direction could have several explanations. From normal settling to structural or foundation-related issues. It’s not automatically a dealbreaker, but it’s worth investigating.
5. Fresh Paint in Suspicious Areas
Fresh paint isn’t necessarily bad, but if you notice one oddly specific patch of new paint, especially around a ceiling, wall, or area with previous water damage, I’d ask why. Sometimes a fresh coat of paint is simply cosmetic; sometimes it’s covering a repair or a problem.
A beautiful home can still have expensive problems hiding underneath the surface. That’s why I don’t just look at the pretty, I pay attention to the details, too. ✨
