![I remember asking my sister, “Do people with one leg actually sit without back support?” She laughed at me.
Back then, I genuinely had no idea what I was capable of.
That morning started like any other - medicines, breakfast, physiotherapy. Then I was asked to sit up. As the bed slowly reached 80°, I felt a sharp pain in my lower back, almost like something had broken. I couldn’t sit there for very long, so I kept moving between different degrees, trying again and again.
When I started rehab, every muscle in my body was assessed for its strength, and almost everything was rated at zero or below. I was, quite literally, starting from nothing.
And then, a few days ago, I found this video.
Watching that version of me feels a little surreal.
Because when I was living those days, I had so many questions. When will I be able to sit, stand, walk, be strong & move without pain.
I think that’s one of the biggest things my disability has taught me about time.
I knew I would get there someday. I just didn’t know when. And I’ve realised that some things in life can only be answered by time.
Time gives your body the chance to heal. It gives your mind the chance to catch up. It gives you the space to build strength, confidence and trust in yourself again.
But time doesn’t do it alone.
You show up. You do the exercise. You keep trying. You use whatever resources you have. You learn, adapt, fall back, try again.
And then, almost without noticing, one day you look back at an old video and realise that something that once felt impossible has quietly become a part of your life.
Maybe that’s what time really gives us.
Not just healing, but the perspective to see how far we’ve come. ❤️
