ESSE Museum & Store

Part of our incredible “Barbie and Friends” display from @vintagebarbiemuseum is the groundbreaking debut of the first Black Barbie. So, what better way to celebrate than to explore the women behind her creation?

In partnership with @calsronrobinsontheater , a special free screening of “Black Barbie: A Documentary” will be showing at the Ron Robinson Theater on September 23rd at 7:00 pm.
This incredible film celebrates the momentous impact three black women at Mattel had on the evolution of the Barbie brand as we know it. Through these charismatic insiders’ stories, the documentary tells the story of how the first Black Barbie came to be in 1980, examining the importance of representation and how dolls can be crucial to the formation of identity and imagination.

Emceed by Little Rock’s very own Verda Davenport, you won’t want to miss this night! And a special treat: all movie attendees will receive a ticket for free admission to the museum valid starting September 25.
