Latika, our girl-with-the-short-trunk-and-big-heart, is really starting to shine as a nanny. She has a soft spot for Lenny — and the little, lovable rogue is really putting her through her paces! We caught up with the pair in the forest and later at the dust bath. (Though true to form, it wasn’t long before Lenny was off to his next adventure.) Latika only graduated to Umani in December, and as a shy elephant, it took her some time to find her place in the herd. Now, she’s one of the family and loving her new nannying responsibilities. (Lenny’s mother, Lima Lima, is thrilled to have her support!) — Latika is a very special little elephant. She was rescued with a snare wrapped tightly around her neck and for a long time struggled with poor health. It’s wonderful to see her thriving at Umani — confident, chubby, and a budding nanny to boot.
