A quick trip to Connecticut with @how2girl and back to celebrate our dear friend’s daughter’s wedding in all the young couples glory. What a beautiful day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Had the best time surrounded by an incredible group of new friends and family. Feeling grateful for moments like these and the wonderful people we get to share them with and BTW fall on the east coast is stellar. Perfect day for a wedding. 💒

Hi. Where I was and where I’m at.

After a decade of debilitating back pain, 17 months ago I underwent a 360 L5-S1 spinal fusion surgery (ALIF + PLIF).

For the first 7 months post-op, all I did was take short, slow walks, adorned in a brace for the first 3 months.

8 months ago I began a very low key routine of Zone 1 indoor cycling on @gozwift

I didn’t even begin PT until February of this year (9 months post op), followed by an extremely gentle introduction to functional strength and a (re)education in resistance training.

To celebrate one year post surgery, in May of this year I went on my first ‘jog’ in years, just a single slow mile to see if a return to running might even be possible for me.

For the last 8 months straight, I haven’t missed a day in the gym (aside from a few travel days), patiently rebuilding my physical body in the dark pre dawn while everyone is still sleeping.

Along the way, both our precious dogs Amma and Moses passed away.

I still have a very long road ahead of me, but I’m still here, now on the cusp of turning 60 in 9 days.

I’m both surprised and grateful for the progress I have made. Today, I’m back to my fighting weight, forty pounds lighter than I was in January. And while I employ a very cautious ‘less is more’ approach to everything I’m doing, I’m now just as gym fit as I ever was.

As for aerobic fitness, I’m not in the same Universe as I was between 42 and 51, but that’s fine. I’m not measuring myself against where I once was. I’m interested in who I can become. And I’m not in any hurry. In fact, I’m just getting started.

The point I’m trying to make is that patience plus consistent work over an extremely long period of time is an undefeatable strategy—and the only way I’ve ever been able to be successful at anything.

Let everyone else rush. Wake up early and quietly play the long game.

Happy Sunday

Gayle Benson Addresses The Saints But What About The Pelicans? 👀 | @scottvicknairlaw

I get it.
Women are hot, strong, and uninterested in you.
And, that’s offensive.
Let’s talk about it….
The gym is not a performance for men.
Our bodies aren’t invitations.
Our outfits aren’t consent.
It can be hard to understand, but we are not here for you.
Instead of policing our existence, take responsibility for your lack of self-control.
