Inclusion Week always brings a wave of 'same opportunities for all' messaging, and it comes from a good place. But sameness and fairness aren't quite the same, especially once you look at how #research actually works in practice.

A fair opportunity to take part in a #trial often comes down to details that have nothing to do with treating people identically: an appointment time that fits around a caring role or a shift pattern, information written in a way that actually makes sense, someone available in the language a person thinks in, a route into a study that doesn't assume everyone can just show up on a weekday morning.

Whether someone ends up in a trial at all can hinge on whether the process was ever built with them in mind, which has a lot more to do with design than with ability or interest...
