What if every girl's first period was met with support, dignity, and pride, not silence or shame? 🩸✨

At Msichana Juu, we are learning from adolescent girls about their first experiences of menstruation. Who supported them? Did they experience dignified menstruation? What do they have to say about their periods, and how do they want to be supported?

This documentary captures moments when we joined our partner @wego_tz in Mwanza, where more than 30 girls and 30 boys from Nyamhongwa Primary and Secondary Schools came together for an adolescent-focused discussion. By bringing girls and boys into the same conversation, we are breaking the silence around menstruation and building a community that understands, respects, and supports girls.

Why this matters: Every story we document, and every dialogue we hold with partners like WEGO, adds to a growing body of evidence from girls' own voices. Together, these insights will shape stronger programs, better policies, and a movement where girls lead the change they want to see.

Msichana Juu is working to make periods public and political, so that girls and young women can enjoy their periods without shame or limitations. This is what collective action looks like. 💪🏾
