A couple of months ago when I started back in the darkroom my friend Greg in Boston reached out to me. He said he had an old Pentax 67 he hadn’t touched in a decade or more and if I wanted it I could have it in exchange for a print. This is my kind of economy, I said yes absolutely.

When I was living in Boston my studio was broken into and my digital slr was stolen. I was about to leave the city for good after a decade; first for the Arctic and then onto Istanbul. I was forced to sell my Hasselblad which I used less at the time to afford a replacement digital slr. I have thought about that camera every single day and my regret over having no choice but to sell it. It was a prized possession since the age of 20.

How would I ever get a new medium format I often wondered to myself.

Greg sent me the Pentax soon after and when I finally had some extra cash I took it to get cleaned and tuned up. I shot my first roll of film with it a few weeks ago in the studio as a test run. Thrilling! Here is an image from that first roll. Light on plastic on light in plastic light with plastics light thru plastic.

I’ll be printing this soon to send to my thoughtful friend @greghuntmade He’s a talented woodworker and carpenter (check his work out) and generally the kind of person we need more of in this world.
