Predjama castle, the world’s largest cave castle. The original fortress was likely constructed in the 12th century. It’s most famous inhabitant was the robber baron knight Erazem Lueger (Erasmus of Predjama), often called the “Robin Hood of Slovenia”. In 1570, the current castle was built in the Renaissance style, pressed next to a vertical cliff under the original medieval fortification. The castle has remained in this form, virtually unchanged, to the present day. Underneath the castle is the second longest Slovenian show cave extending 14 km and home to a large colony of bats.
