Day two in Rhodes, and I started with a swim at Elli.

I swam out to the old 1930s diving tower. Two older ladies in white swimming caps were doing slow lengths along the buoys, and when they saw me climbing up, they stopped and trod water to watch.

So I had no choice.

I went off the board.

When I came up they were clapping, and one of them called something to me in Greek that I couldn’t understand, but have chosen to take as a compliment.

Lunch was back in town: little chickpea fritters called pitaroudia, still hot, with yoghurt. I ate every one.

Afterwards I walked the long dry moat around the old town walls, past heaps of stone balls left from the siege of 1522. They are still lying there five hundred years later, which makes whatever I did today feel rather temporary.

Rhodes, day two. I think I’m going to like it here.

Would you have jumped?

Bedford was diagnosed with Schwartz-Jampel Syndrome, an extremely rare condition affecting his muscles and joints. 🥺

Despite the challenges, his determination has inspired millions online, including one video that reached 24.8 million views. 📈

His story is a powerful reminder that perseverance can inspire far more people than we realize. ❤️
