Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde were detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday, October 13, after attempting to enter Jantar Mantar, which has recently been removed from Delhiโ€™s list of designated protest sites. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the party members had entered the site early in the morning carrying the national flag before police detained them. In a post on social media, Dipke said, โ€œYou cannot denotify the resistance,โ€ opposing the withdrawal of Jantar Mantarโ€™s status as a designated protest venue. The incident comes amid escalating tensions between the CJP and Delhi Police over the partyโ€™s attempts to organise demonstrations in the national capital. The party has been demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. On October 12, CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka wrote to Delhi Police seeking permission to hold a peaceful protest. They urged authorities to de-escalate their response to demonstrators and formally allocate a venue for the protest. Delhi Police recently announced alternative locations for demonstrations, including Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground and CBD Ground, after removing Jantar Mantar from its list of designated protest sites. The decision has drawn opposition from CJP members, who maintain that the restrictions will not stop their campaign. The latest detentions mark another confrontation in the ongoing protests over the Election Commission and voter-roll revision. The CJP has vowed to continue pressing for accountability and the right to demonstrate.
