Cheruvayal Raman called me his daughter when I met him, and he touched my heart. From then on, I teased him and called him my Malayali Acchan. When we last spoke to each other a month back, he wanted me to go and meet him. I promised that I would, but I had to cut short my trip to Wayanad because of events in Delhi so I missed meeting him thinking that I would return soon. When I heard about his passing today my heart sank. My Malayali acchan was wise, dignified and bold in thought and action. He wanted more for his people, he refused to accept less. His mind could not tolerate discrimination and injustice. He showed me his awards and honours with sadness in his eyes - he said they would mean nothing to him until his people could live better lives. He was a genius in his knowledge of paddy and agriculture and he understood the great value of his own culture and tradition. He was proud of his heritage and lived it with every breath. I will miss my wise friend and keep his teachings in my heart for always. India has lost a noble son.

Ad “Look how cozy it looks to see lamps lit inside the houses.”  These words my Mom offered to me as a child have stayed with me my entire life. To this day as the days dim and the lamps go on, nothing makes me feel cozier than seeing lamps lit within a home. I begin to wonder about the family inside. My heart senses rest, peace and love, a quiet time of calm and winding down.  Seeing a lamp in the window quiets my heart and makes me so grateful for the comforts of home.  Now you know why I have always been a HUGE lover of lamplight!   @pookylightsus Giving our home all the cozy feels!! Please tell me….What do you feel when you pass by a house with a lamp lit inside? The lamp bases and shades I chose are listed below.  -Walter cordless table lamp in antiqued brass Shade in foglia hand made marbled paper. -stucco cordless table lamp in stone ceramic Shade in oxblood block print Dotty  -Annetta cordless table lamp in stone shade in claret gold by morris- #pookyus #cozyhome #cozyvibes #itsthelittlethings #lamps
Stoney Creek Dairy 📍135 King Street East (Amica Senior Living Complex) {The dairy portion closed in 2002, though operations continued until the site ultimately closed down in 2013. The remaining property was eventually cleared in 2016 to make way for the modern Amica Senior Living complex. Honoring its rich local legacy, Amica constructed a small ice cream parlour which opens to the public on summer weekends.} Tracing its roots back to 1929 when George Dawson founded the dairy at 135 King Street East, initially collecting and bottling milk right out of the family home. In the early days, the dairy operated a door-to-door milk delivery service. Residents would leave their empty milk bottles by the road along with purchased tokens for fresh milk, and the delivery truck driver would exchange full bottles for the tokens and empties. By the early 1940s, ice cream production began on-site, and individual cones were sold directly to customers from the King Street outlet before the operation grew to supply ice cream wholesale. George Hirst joined the firm as manager in 1936, assisting Dawson as the business flourished. By the 1960s, facing a ferociously competitive dairy market alongside Royal Oak, the Dawsons operated one of the most modern dairies in the district with a fleet of 23 trucks. During the bustling 1950s, the location was so popular that six car hops directed traffic in and out of the parking lot, and peak days saw more then 12,000 customers. A more modern facility was constructed on the property in 1964. George Dawson retired in the early 1970s, passing the business to his son, Greg Dawson. George Dawson passed away in 1986. Under the Dawson family, the enterprise remained a local institution until 1996, when Delicious Alternative Desserts Ltd. purchased the business and took it public on the Vancouver Stock Exchange. In 1998, DAD acquired the rights to produce and sell Ben and Jerry’s ice cream in Canada, launching an ambitious $11-million production overhaul that ultimately ballooned to $11.6 million in debt. Facing severe financial strain, the company suffered a trading freeze in February 2001 and went into receivership in 2002.
