You may have seen the news that a major celebrity is fighting the press in high court at the moment in the UK, threatening su*cide if they publish details of the CSA and SA allegations against him. This is not the first time I have come across this though. Back in 2017, another very high profile man who was committing these same offences (later found in court) - stopped ITV from running the stories on him by using lawyers to send threats that he would end his life if they published. I was involved in that work - and I couldn’t believe the fear that these false threats caused to the ITV legal teams - but they worked. They pulled the story - and they never publicly came to light. He was privately found to have done it, but it was never published - even to this day. I am concerned about this case because if successful, it sets a dangerous precedent - that anyone can threaten su*cide and make sure no one knows anything about what they have done. Conversely though - I think it sets up a legal challenge for everyone else in the country - why can only the rich and famous stop the press from publishing allegations against them? Couldn’t anyone do that? What is a life worth? Who gets to threaten this, and who doesn’t? And if this man is so su*cidal - why isn’t he sectioned and in hospital like the working class offender would be? So so so many questions - but ultimately - will a high court Judge be their next victim of emotional blackmail and gaslighting? We wait and see.
Too late…##⏰
