Mariah Carey & Da Brat •

A few weeks ago, I did a post on Mary J. Blige and Lil Kim’s friendship and musical partnership and in the comments, someone asked me to do a post on Mariah Carey & her bestie Da Brat, and that was easy to me, because as these being two women I grew up loving, i loved their relationship as well as their songs separately and together.

One thing about Mariah Carey, when it came to Hip Hop, Brat was one of her favorite girls to do it with! 😂 I’ve always loved how these two came together because you got Mariah at her most genuine and comfortable self and Brat bringing that confidence and attitude that made their collaborations so much fun.

From the “Always Be My Baby” remix to “Heartbreaker” and “Loverboy,” these two gave us some moments! Mariah understood how to bring rappers into her world without losing what made her records special, and Brat knew exactly how to add her own flavor to the mix.

But beyond the music, I love that this wasn’t just a couple of artists linking up for a song. Their friendship carried into real life, and you could see the genuine love they had for each other. Brat became part of Mariah’s world during such an iconic period in her career, and they’ve continued to show each other love over the years.

It’s always special to see real relationships, friendships and genuine bonds in an industry built upon make believe, so seeing these two for over 30 years be bonded not just in music but in sisterhood has always been something i’ve loved.

Claude’s Birthday always brings in the fall… in such a beautiful way. My sister is everything to me… she reminds us to slow down, to capture the moments but also be so present in them. She reminds me of everything that actually matters… Family, Love & so much laughter. I look forward to celebrating you every year… but I really do celebrate the incredible woman that you are everyday! You are becoming more beautiful, more wise & more whimsical with every year…
I love you Tatette.
Btw @claudettebailon we should go camping in your front yard more often… but, I’ll purchase more neutral colored tents lol.
