Foto Arsenal Wien is pleased to present ZANELE MUHOLI. „We are here“, the first solo exhibition dedicated to the work of the South African photographer (b. 1972 in Umlazi) in Austria. Over 120 photographs, videos, and archive material from more than two decades show Muholi’s work as a visual activist to increase the visibility of Black LGBTQIA+ communities. The exhibition addresses identity, gender, memory, and representation ans invites viewers to question existing images and perspectives. An accompanying program with tours, workshops, and cooperations explore topics such as queer visibility and social participation.

The Austrian photographer ERIC ASAMOAH (born in Linz in 1999; lives and works in Vienna and Paris) explores issues of identity, memory and representation in his portraits – shaped by transnational perspectives and lived experiences within the Ghanaian diaspora. His works are characterised by a restrained, contemplative approach. As curator Mona Schubert emphasises, “In Eric Asamoah, we are presenting a defining voice of the younger Austrian photography scene. His highly acclaimed photobooks and exhibitions are characterised by a poetic visual language that arises from encounters with his subjects and weaves personal stories with collective experiences.”
