![The cybersecurity industry is getting an AI powered upgrade.
Meet PentAGI, an open source platform that uses multiple AI agents to automate penetration testing.
Instead of relying on one AI to do everything, PentAGI coordinates specialised agents that work together to investigate a target, use security tools and analyse potential vulnerabilities.
Here’s what makes it interesting:
→ Multi agent system: Different AI agents handle research, development and execution tasks.
→ Automated reconnaissance: Helps investigate a target and identify potential entry points.
→ 20+ security tools: Integrates traditional penetration testing tools into its workflow.
→ Autonomous workflows: Can run complex testing tasks with limited human intervention.
→ Flexible AI models: Supports different AI providers, including options for local model deployment.
→ Self hosted and open source: You can inspect the code and run it on your own infrastructure.
Why does this matter?
Penetration testing traditionally requires security professionals to perform many repetitive steps, from reconnaissance to vulnerability analysis. PentAGI aims to automate parts of that process, helping security teams investigate systems more efficiently.
But there’s an important distinction: autonomous testing doesn’t mean guaranteed successful hacking, and the project doesn’t eliminate the need for human oversight. Its capabilities depend on the models, tools, configuration and target environment.
PentAGI is released under the MIT open source licence and is designed for authorised security testing. Never use it against systems you don’t have permission to test.
