Behind the raccoons and all the lighthearted virality, Erling Haaland maintains the singular focus required of a world-class athlete. In order to survive the pounding of modern soccer—he appeared in more than 70 matches for club and country last season—there is simply no other way.

Raised playing soccer in Bryne, inside an indoor facility where no one kept score and participation was all that mattered, Haaland developed his own sense of discipline. He is fanatical about keeping himself in prime physical condition, with a regimen that blends new-age techniques and the wisdom of the fjords. To protect his circadian rhythm, he wears red-light glasses every night as he winds down before bed. Whenever he has the chance, Haaland also chops wood and plunges his enormous body into icy water.

His general attitude about wellness largely boils down to the single best piece of advice he ever received, from Pep Guardiola. The Catalan genius, known as the best soccer manager of his generation, helped mold Haaland into the Terminator he is today in their four years together at Manchester City.

“Do it with passion,” Guardiola told him. “When you’re working, stay fully focused. But when you’re done working, think about something else. Don’t think about football. Think about whatever, just not football, so you don’t get tired of it.”

MEMBUNCAAAAHHHH PRELIMINARY - Who is the best in Preliminary ?

Everything you know and love about Hani’s—the cinnamon buns, the rice crispy treats, the best damn triple chocolate chunk cookies, all of the cakes—soon in a BOOK! How lucky we are to be working on this.

Biggest thank you to everyone @hanisbakerynyc. We have the greatest team, and this book will be a testament to their dedication and hard work. Thank you to the world’s best literary agent, @alisonfargis (and to @caseyelsass for introducing us). Somehow, we found our way back to each other, and it was as fate intended. Thank you to @k.a.snowden and @tenspeedpress for believing in us. I hope we make you proud. And thank you to all the incredible editors we met along the way.

Thanks most of all to all of you who come through our tiny bakery every single day. Your joy is contagious, and you have helped make Hani’s the place it is today.

Grew the fam! 💐🩷
