Draft Pick 26. 13 years. 274 Games. The privilege of Captaining and wearing the number 7 in Red & Black.

It’s hard to put into words and a few photos what Essendon truly means to me. This club has been such a huge part of my life, and the connection I have with it and its people will stay with me forever.

I was never the most talented player, but I always wanted to be someone my teammates and supporters could rely on. To be consistent, to give an unwavering effort and leave nothing behind every time I trained or pulled on the sash game day.

I’m incredibly grateful for every person I’ve met along the way, administrators, head coaches, coaches, football staff, teammates, past players, sponsors, coteries, track watchers, podcasters, social media commenters, volunteers and most importantly the fans. Theres too many to mention individually but you will always hold a special place in my heart.

I’m sorry I couldn’t deliver the success we all wanted. I’ve often felt like I’ve failed and let you down. leaving without achieving the success we all dreamed of, and worked so hard towards is disappointing and hurts more then you’ll know. The young talent at the club is at a level I’ve not seen in 13 years, and I know that the path the club is taking is the right one, and the fans are going to love cheering on the future bomber superstars.

Seeing the number 7 in the stands on fans backs was always my greatest motivation and I hope I was able to inspire you in some small way along the journey.

Playing alongside my brother was a dream come true and are memories my family and I will cherish forever.

Thank you for 13 incredible years. I leave with nothing but gratitude, pride and love for the red and black.

Thank you, @essendonfc player 1113 ❤️

“I’m pretty sure I was a car in a previous life.

“I’ve memorized Mustang VIN codes from 1964 to ’73 and can tell you everything about the car based on numbers and letters.

“What gravitated me towards Mustang was the impact it’s made on culture. From movies to music to literally creating the pony car segment...the community surrounding Mustang is unlike anything else. And that’s what led me to purchasing my dream car, a 1967 Mustang GT that I named Raven.” —Natasha De Melis, @mustang.marie
