Los Angeles — A 45-day federal civil enforcement campaign continued Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, across California, with Los Angeles seeing some of the highest activity. The initiative, described by officials as a state-focused enforcement surge, began in early October and is scheduled to run through mid-November. It has brought a visible increase in federal personnel to neighborhoods, transit hubs, worksites, courthouses and downtown blocks. On Wednesday, a separate multi-agency operation was visible in the Skid Row area. Heavy-duty vehicles and personnel from several federal agencies joined the action, which focused on downtown Los Angeles and nearby streets. Witnesses reported vehicle stops, early-morning door knocks and a heavy official presence. A report by a Washington-based news outlet said federal immigration agents have been directed to detain people without limiting targets to those with prior criminal records. The federal homeland security department and its immigration agencies have not released full details on the scope, targeting criteria or number of people held. Community leaders say the guidance has spread fear across Los Angeles County, home to one of the nation’s largest communities of residents born outside the U.S. Know-your-rights groups are urging residents to: · Avoid unnecessary travel, especially between 5:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., when enforcement activity has been most frequent. Operations can occur at any hour. · Keep a family plan for children, medications, documents and emergency contacts. · Do not open the door unless an agent shows a judicial warrant signed by a judge. · Remain silent and ask, “Am I free to leave?” if approached. · Safely record badge numbers, agency names and vehicle information. · Memorize an attorney’s or consulate’s number and a trusted emergency contact. · If detained, ask to contact an attorney and your consulate. Do not sign documents you do not understand. Memorize your A-number if you have one. · Report activity to local rapid-response networks and legal observers. #losangeles #california #knowyourrights #BreakingNews #dtla
