NEW DETAILS: A fiber line accidentally cut by an Amtrak construction crew in New Jersey disrupted telecommunications and led the Federal Aviation Administration to halt flights into busy Northeast airports Monday, according to U.S. Secretary Sean Duffy. Flights into Philadelphia International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, and Teterboro Airport were paused as crews responded to the outage.

This was a NJ Transit work crew, not Amtrak. This report should be updated for accuracy.

Listen I get infrastructure and I get this is a major F up. But maybe the backbone of major airlines functioning shouldn’t be a single fiber line.
