It is with profound sadness that the Manchester Police Department announces the unexpected passing of K9 Hank.
Hank was a loyal, fierce, and dedicated partner to Sergeant Ben Foster. Hank began his police career in August 2019 and became a certified police K9 team with Sgt. Foster in December of that year. From that day forward, Hank became a familiar and valued presence on the 4x12 shift and throughout the Manchester Police Department.
Over the years, Hank responded to countless calls and deployments, often going into harm’s way while making a significant difference in dangerous situations. His courage, reliability, and willingness to protect his fellow officers were evident time and time again. Sgt. Foster and Hank were instrumental in countless security sweeps and special events throughout the city and beyond. From road races throughout Manchester to the Boston Marathon and Presidential visits, they consistently answered the call and worked to make our community safer.
But Hank was much more than his work.
Those who knew him will remember him as the one who was always excited to bring you a tug or a ball and demand that you play. Hank had a way of pushing his way into your space and making sure you engaged with him. He was happy, energetic, and always ready to interact with the people around him.
Most importantly, Hank stood by Ben every day. Their partnership was built on trust, loyalty, and an extraordinary bond that extended far beyond their work together.
Hank leaves behind a legacy of courage, service, and countless memories. His impact was felt not only in the lives he helped protect, but also in the lives of the officers and members of our community who had the privilege of knowing him.
To Sergeant Foster and Hank’s family, please know that the Manchester Police Department stands with you during this difficult time. We share in your grief and are grateful for the years of service, protection, and companionship Hank gave to our department and our community.
Rest easy, good boy.
You were a loyal partner, a fierce protector, and a friend to many. You will not be forgotten.
With deepest sympathy,
Manchester Police Department
