Capturing the purest joy on the dance floor at the end of my F🔺G B🔺SH 9.2.26 set. It’s wild where this little DJ journey has taken me. 14yrs of guest F🔺G B🔺SH sets, a decade of my party Sugar Biscuit, from throwing house parties to huge events, and many sweet collaborations. This passion has completely changed my life.
Sharing a deeper level of music and opening portals for various communities is the core of what I love about this art form. But it also has given me place to belong.
I’ve always struggled to find my place, my people, my community. Being behind the decks is my own portal to so much of that. It’s a safe haven where I don’t have to make awkward small talk or rely on words at all. It’s my love language. My poetry. My access. My purpose. My offering.
For years I let myself believe I couldn’t do this without someone taking the spotlight off of me. My anxiety was debilitating. I didn’t trust my abilities. I stayed close to folx who didn’t align with my vision so I wouldn’t have to face those fears. All of that backfired hard when the party I poured my heart and soul into for a decade was shattered from those very people...
3 years later I can’t believe how much I’ve grown. I can play 4-5 hour sets with nothing planned out. I trust myself and the million hours I’ve put into finding music and developing technical skills. I don’t need anyone to shelter me from my gremlins, my insecurities. I feel calmer than ever. Centered. Not attached to perfection. And free in a way I never could have imagined. Super grateful for the core family that has kept my light burning bright. You mean the world to me and nothing feels better than connecting through music with you all 🪩 🖤
