HAMLET — Insomnio (1998)💛🧡💛
With Insomnio, Hamlet didn’t simply release another heavy record — they found the album that would become one of the defining turning points of their career.
Released in 1998 through Zero Records and recorded in the UK with producer Colin Richardson, the album sharpened the band’s sound into a dense collision of groove metal, hardcore, thrash and the emerging nu-metal language of the late ’90s.
From “Tortura-Visión” to “Tu Medicina,” “Antes y Después,” “Muérdesela” and “Odio,” everything feels tighter, heavier and more claustrophobic. The lyrics also begin turning inward, moving beyond social anger toward anxiety, frustration and personal conflict.
Molly sounds permanently on the edge of collapse, while Luis Tárraga and Pedro Sánchez build a wall of riffs that feels both modern and unmistakably rooted in Spanish metal.
Years later, Molly himself described Insomnio as the record that “was everything” for Hamlet, a true turning point that firmly established them on the national scene.
And this copy carries an extra piece of history for me: the ticket from the February 18, 2000 show at Le VIP in Saint-Nazaire — Hysteresis + Pleymo + Hamlet — is signed by Hamlet vocalist Molly.
A ticket, a signature, a record.
Three small objects, one very specific moment in heavy music history.
Raw. Dark. Restless. Essential.
