Parvez Parwaz, a 72-year-old former journalist and social activist who sought legal action over a speech delivered by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in 2007, died in Gorakhpur District Jail on Sunday while serving a life sentence in a separate gangrape case.

Gorakhpur District Jail officials said Parwaz had several health problems, including high blood pressure and diabetes. He reportedly developed breathing difficulties late Saturday night and was taken to the district hospital, where he died during treatment at around 2:50 am.

Parwaz had been in jail since September 2018 after a woman accused him and another man of gangrape. In July 2020, a district court sentenced him to life imprisonment in the case.

His death has brought renewed attention to his long legal battle over a speech delivered by Adityanath, who was then the Bharatiya Janata Party’s MP from Gorakhpur.

Parwaz Recorded Adityanath’s 2007 Speech

On January 27, 2007, Parwaz was passing near Gorakhpur railway station when he saw Adityanath addressing a gathering near a statue of Maharana Pratap. The city was tense following a clash during a Muharram procession in which a Hindu youth was injured and later died.

Parwaz recorded the speech with his camera. Adityanath was quoted as saying, “In the coming time, for the b!ood of one Hindu, we will not get an FIR registered against the administration, but will instead have at least 10 such people k!lled.”

The speech was followed by violence in parts of Gorakhpur. Reports said at least two people were killed and property worth crores of rupees was damaged during the riots.

Parwaz later sought legal action over the speech, alleging that Adityanath had incited violence. The allegations were contested, and the legal proceedings continued for years.

I’ve been keeping this a secret for a while, but earlier this year I made one of the biggest bets of my career & this time it’s not in Silicon Valley or New York. It’s in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

I’m proud to officially announce that I’m an investor & advisor to @higgsfield.ai

My first business was a media agency that started with one editor, one camera & one all-nighter at a time. The content game was brutal back then. If you didn’t have a team, a budget, or a following, you didn’t stand a chance.

But now, Higgsfield has levelled that playing field.

Higgsfield went from launch to over $1 billion in annualised revenue in 18 months, the fastest ramp in software history. It has 30 million+ users worldwide & 390 of the Fortune 500 use it.

Incredible numbers, but here’s what this actually means for you…

Whether you’re selling coaching, a digital product, a local service, or eCom, you now have your own full marketing department, at your fingertips.

To the team at Higgsfield:

You’ve accomplished what I’ve spent ten years trying to do. You’ve given the everyday person the same firepower as the biggest brands in the world.

It’s the start of a new era & I’m honoured to be a part of it.

I can’t wait for you to see what’s about to come next.

But for now… It’s back to work.

с 2024 года – 61 год;
с 1 января 2028 года – 61,5 года;
с 1 января 2029 года – 62 года;
с 1 января 2030 года – 62,5 года;
с 1 января 2031 года – 63 года.
